Who doesn’t know this eminent, ambient, talented, tremendous and such a great president and scientist named as Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

 

He was such a loving, intelligent, confident and a knowledgeable person that even words can’t describe his personality. He is popularly known as the ” Missile Man of India”. He was a man of vision, who was always full of ideas aimed at the development of country. The different steps in Dr.Kalam’s life can be described as follows:

 

Birth and Education:

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born to Jainulabdeen and Ashiamma on 15th Oct, 1931 at the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu and received honorary doctorates from about 30 universities globally.

He graduated from Saint Joseph’s College Tiruchirappali in 1954, but was not satisfied fully and therefore enrolled at the Madras Institute of Technology (M.I.T) to study aerospace engineering further.

 

Career:

After graduating from M.I.T , Mr.Kalam took up the position of Chief Scientist at the Aeronautical Development Establishment of Defense Research and Development (D.R.D.O.)

In the 1970’s, he directed two projects, namely Project Devil and Project Valiant, which sought to develop ballistic missiles for the technology of successful SLV program. In 1992 until 1997, Mr. Kalam was appointed as the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister and Secretary of Defense and research development organization.

He succeeded K.R. Narayan to serve as the 11th President of India from 2002 until 2007.

He also authored a numerous influential and inspirational books, among which his most famous was ”India 2020” which was widely read and appreciated too..

He also served as the Chancellor of India Institute of Space Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram, Aerospace Engineering at the Anna University (Chennai), JSS University (Mysore).

 

Awards and Achievements:

This eminent scientist and engineer was honored with so many awards in his lifetime.
In the year 1981, the Govt. of India presented him the nation’s highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan, then again the same in 1990 and Bharat Ratna in 1997.

He was also the first scientist and bachelor to occupy the seat of Rashtrapati Bhavan. .

Some other awards given to him are:-
1.) Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration (1997).
2.) Ramanujan Award (2000).
3.) King Charles II Medal (2007).
4.) Hoover Medal (2009).

He was also nominated for the MTV youth Icon of the year Award in 2003 and in 2006.

 

Death:

Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam passed away on 27th July, 2015 at Bethany Hospital Shillong (Meghalaya) due to cardiac arrest after having collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong.

We are very lucky that such a precious Gem was born in our country. He dedicated his whole life in serving this country viz India in a well- managed way. He was also considered as the Godfather of the students. His tremendous and important inventions led this country to put one step forward towards the success.

 

Overall, Mr. Kalam was a true, loving, and the most connected and thus knowledgeable patriot that we have ever seen in our life. Now he is no more, but still his dedication, immense inventions and some crucial discoveries would be remembered forever in our minds. He would remain alive in our hearts. He is an immortal person and will always remain in our thoughts.
