“Life is not about finding yourself, it is about creating yourself”.

Choosing career is one of the most important decision a person has to make in his life. It is so important because that is one has to do to support himself throughout life. Imagine being stuck in a dead end job and having to go to work every morning and dreading it. Life is too short and if you have to spend the crucial 35 years of your life with a work that does not make you happy then it is of no use. Career should be chosen very carefully because that is what we have to stay with for our rest of the life. Whatever work we do should bring out satisfaction then only it would generate happiness. We have a variety of people around us. Some people dream to be rich or to become business tycoons (magnates, big guns). Some people dream of becoming leaders, politicians and social reformers. There are others who have a craze of becoming poets, writers and novelists while most of us generally have a desire of becoming engineers, doctors and scientists of great repute. There are a very few people who are happy-go-lucky by nature and have no clear-cut aims in lives.

Casual approach in choosing a career or profession can prove very harmful. It reflects indecision, lack of dedication, purpose and carelessness. Gone are the days when birth, caste, heredity and family decided one’s career. One followed the footsteps of one’s father in India. Now, life is very complex and these are the days of specialisation. There is an infinite variety of professions and jobs, which may lead one to confusion and bewilderment. It makes the choice of a career all the more difficult. The lack of proper guidance and counselling further worsens the situation. Consequently, young men and women are seen groping in the dark and making wrong career-choices. The ever-increasing number of job- seekers, ill-equipped to make right decisions in the matter, has generated a lot of frustration, hopelessness, alienation, unrest and acts of indiscipline. It also means a waste of human resources and national wealth. The youth of our country is ambitious and impatient. They are good dreamers but poor achievers but someone has rightly said “dreams don’t work unless you do”. The general complains among the youth is lack of chances and options but they do not realize if opportunity does not knock why don’t they build a door.

Choosing a career is not so very difficult if one can find his passion, fight for it and make his passion his career. If you do not build your dream someone will hire you to build theirs. Steve Jobs has rightly said “Your time is limited; don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living the result of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other opinions drown your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
